Guillain Barre Syndrome

Physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in the multidisciplinary approach to GBS management, focusing on tailored interventions to facilitate recovery, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life for individuals navigating the challenges of GBS.

GBS is a rare neurological disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and potentially life-threatening complications.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome is an autoimmune condition characterised by the immune system mistakenly attacking the peripheral nerves, resulting in inflammation and damage. This damage disrupts the communication between the nerves and the muscles, leading to weakness, numbness, tingling sensations, and in severe cases, paralysis. GBS can progress rapidly, requiring immediate medical intervention and ongoing rehabilitation to support recovery.

At Neurobility our specialised physiotherapy interventions are tailored to each individual’s unique needs, addressing specific impairments and facilitating a safe and effective rehabilitation process. We use progressive strengthening exercises targeting weakened muscles, gradually increasing intensity and duration as tolerance improves, we also incorporate exercises to preserve joint mobility, reduce stiffness, and improve overall flexibility. If respiratory function is affected, we use specific exercises and breathing techniques to maintain the best lung function possible and help people to breath more easily. Our treatment is complemented by the technology we have available in the clinic such as the LiteGait, MMGO and Gripable.
